Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2020 | Building Careers at Jacobs Steel
Building Careers at Jacobs Steel
Our success here at Jacobs Steel is down to the strength of our team: their skills, ability and commitment to tirelessly deliver results for our clients is what sets us apart. We believe that everyone should be provided with the opportunity to learn new skills and improve on existing knowledge; which is why we offer apprenticeship schemes across our six offices.
Our apprentices are given unique tools and training to begin a career within estate agency and earn themselves a good set of qualifications to set them on the right path within the business. We believe in encouraging our staff to want to progress and motivating them to do so; which is why many that have joined us at apprentice level have gone on to climb the career ladder within Jacobs Steel.
Here’s what a few of our apprentices had to say about their roles:
Dom Sbuttoni
Junior Sales Consultant | Shoreham Branch
Dom joined Jacobs Steel in 2019 and is one of our newest apprentices. He says:
“When I walked into the office I loved the atmosphere. People were so professional and so knowledgeable, I knew that I wanted to go straight into working my way up to the top of the ladder; gaining as much knowledge and experience in a dynamic work environment as I could”
Dom’s attitude is completely refreshing, and he is thoroughly enjoying the fact that no two days are the same in his role!
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about an apprenticeship?
“My advice would be hard work gets noticed and will stump anything else. With the right attitude, the scheme will make you be the best agent you can be; going above and beyond at every opportunity. You must love what you do because otherwise you won’t want to do it every day.”
Amy Wooton
Senior Sales Consultant | West Worthing Branch
Amy began her career at Jacobs Steel over 5 years ago and has worked her way up from Apprentice, to the fundamental role she holds at our West Worthing Branch today.
After doing a stint working on the sunny island of Tenerife, Amy was lucky enough that her parents happened to bump in to an old family friend: Ashley Jacobs, one of our Founders. He recommended she send in a CV and the rest, as they say, is history!
Amy says, “Without the apprenticeship I might of never shaped the career I have now! Plus I have achieved so many extra qualifications.”
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about an apprenticeship?
“Do it! It’s a great way to get into an industry with no experience and to learn about real working life. It also makes you grow up a lot quicker!”
Sophie Waller
Junior Lettings Consultant | Broadwater Office
Sophie joined us in early 2019, when our lettings department was still in it’s infancy. It’s safe to say that she has been an important part of our growth and provided fundamental support to our Lettings Manager in building the department’s success over the last year. Currently still completing her apprenticeship, she says,
“I have learned so much since beginning my career at Jacobs Steel. I am thoroughly enjoying my role and how fast-paced it is. There isn’t a dull moment!”
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about an apprenticeship?
There’s no doubt it is a great way to learn new skills and even boost lifeskills. I’ve gained so much knowledge since starting my apprenticeship, its great. Just go for it!
Charlie Haines
Sales Consultant | West Worthing
After being injurned in football Charlie was left unable to carry on pursuing a career in sport and so he joined our apprenticeship scheme as it was a way of learning while earning money. Having recently completed his apprenticeship and gained a promotion, he says,
“My apprenticesip helped me learn the basics of the industry and helped me with everyday skills. It was a gateway in to a career I know love, with a company I am grateful to represent”
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about an apprenticeship?
“It’s a really good way of learning and gaining new skills while earning money; and choosing the right one can help you take the correct career path for you. “
Phoebe Kimber
Junior Sales Consultant | Lancing Branch
Having begun her apprenticeship with Jacobs Steel in 2019, Phoebe has really enjoyed being able to be independent; and has found her role has given her confidence a boost. She says,
I chose to do an apprenticeship with Jacobs steel because I was always interested in estate agency and thought it would be a great opportunity to learn more about the property market whilst gaining a qualification.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about an apprenticeship?
I would say that an apprenticeship is a great way to learn whilst you work and earn money, so go for it!
