Jacobs Steel’s Charity Ball 2023 Raises Just Shy of £18,000

November 10, 2023

Jacobs Steel held their first charity ball in 2019. Matt Jacobs and Pat Barton, our hands-on, vision-led Managing Directors, came up the idea of the ball to bring local business people together and work together to look after our community. Matt Jacobs says, “It’s really important to us as a business to be part of the community and give something back where we can.”

The 2019 ball was a complete success, where Jacobs Steel raised over £9,000 for local charities Guild Care and West Sussex Mind, so they decided to do it again in 2020! Unfortunately, the pandemic had other plans; so the ball was delayed until 2022. Nevertheless, another success, raising over £12,000 for the aforementioned charities.

This year, the Jacobs Steel team were overwhelmed by the generosity of those who donated, raising a whopping £17,652.67 for West Sussex Mind and Guild Care. This is approximately £5,650 more than last year!

On the night, we have a silent auction, a live auction and a raffle. Local businesses donate prizes, which we are so incredibly grateful for. We also play a number of games which helps people get in the spirit and have a bit of fun, whilst raising money for a good cause.

Words from Jacobs Steel’s Pat Barton

We’ve given a lot of support to the community in various ways over the years, but we wanted to do something just that little bit more significant. When you bring 300 business people in to a room, lots of them will know of West Sussex Mind, and they’ll know of Guild Care. But they won’t know what they do.

Charities have a real difficulty because they need to get themselves out in front of people, without overly pushing it. Fundraising is so important to them. It’s a sad thing to say, but some of these charities go unnoticed. Part of why we’ve done this is to bring charities to the forefront of peoples’ minds.
