Joe’s Kilimanjaro Challenge

April 16, 2025

At Jacobs Steel, we’re proud of our people. Not just for the work they do day-to-day, but for the incredible things they take on outside of the office too.

This August, Joe Hammond, our amazing Assistant Branch Manager at our Worthing branch, will be taking on a once-in-a-lifetime challenge: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak standing at a mighty 5,895 metres!

But Joe isn’t just doing it for the adventure (though it’s certainly a huge one). He’s doing it for something even bigger.

He’s raising money for two incredible charities that are very close to his heart: St Barnabas House and Cancer Research UK.

Climbing in memory of Charlotte

Joe’s taking on this monumental challenge in memory of his beloved mum, Charlotte Hammond, who sadly passed away in July 2012 after a brave battle with cancer.

“Mum was the cornerstone of our family,” Joe says. “To take on this challenge in her memory is something I hold dear to my heart.”

Joe will be climbing alongside his two cousins, his aunty, and lifelong family friends, Selina and Eli.

Every step counts

The climb won’t be easy – Kilimanjaro is known for its tough terrain and extreme altitude. It will take months of training, serious mental strength, and determination. But Joe is committed to every step, knowing that the funds raised will go towards two causes that make a real difference every single day.

“Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference. Your support will go directly towards helping scientists develop new treatments, improve early detection methods, and ultimately, find a cure for cancer.”

Help Joe reach the summit and his fundraising goal

If you’d like to support Joe on his journey, you can donate via his JustGiving page.

Even if you’re not in a position to donate, sharing the page with your friends and family would mean the world to him.

From all of us at Jacobs Steel – Joe, we’re behind you every step of the way. You’ve got this!
