Hold onto your hats, Worthing FC fans! What a rollercoaster of a season it’s been!
Flying high at the league’s peak with just five games to go, promotion dreams were buzzing around Woodside Road. Then came the heart-stopping defeats against Welling and Hornchurch, a real punch to the gut that saw our precious top spot snatched away.
The spirit of the Rebels shone through with a fantastic 2-0 victory over Hampton & Richmond. We dared to believe again! However, Truro City delivered a thunderous blow at home, a painful 2-1 loss that really shook things up.
Did that stop us? Absolutely not!
Worthing FC roared back with an incredible away win against Chippenham, followed by a gritty point at Eastbourne Borough with 10-men led to a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash against Dorking on Easter Monday. The atmosphere was absolutely electric! We took the lead just before half-time, but Dorking fought back for a 1-1 draw. Despite an emphatic 5-1 win away at Enfield Town in the final game of the season, and a record points total since being promoted to the National League South, Worthing Rebels finished the season fourth in the table.
Then came the playoffs. Worthing FC packed to the rafters once more to watch the Rebels as they competed in the play-offs for the third season running against Maidstone. But alas, it wasn’t to be, Maidstone securing a tough 2-0 win and crushing our promotion dreams once again.
The disappointment was etched on every face, another season in the National League South beckoning. But amidst the heartache, the unwavering resilience and fight shown throughout the season provide a beacon of hope! We’ll learn from this, we’ll rebuild, and we’ll be back stronger than ever in our relentless pursuit of the National League!
Come on you Rebels!
