Will Payne, Lettings Consultant at Jacobs Steel, and avid Rebels fan shared the latest update about our proud partnership with Worthing FC.
After an impressive debut season last year in the National League South which saw the Rebels claim 4th spot and get to a play-off semi-final, they have continue their impressive form into this term. Throughout the season Worthing have caught the eye with their free flowing attacking style after scoring 77 league goals in just 35 league games, 35 of which have been scored by star striker Ollie Pearce who is enjoying his 5th year at the club.
After an inconsistent February which ended with 2 wins and 3 defeats, Worthing started the month of March with the shock news that manager Adam Hinshlewood had made the decision to move on when National League strugglers York City came calling. Hinshlewood leaves Worthing regarded as one of their most successful managers, with 2 Isthmian Premier Division titles and last years Sussex Senior Cup under his belt since joining for his second spell at the club in February 2017.
There was little time for interim boss Aarran Racine to prepare for his first game in his new role as Worthing travelled to fellow play-off chasing Chelmsford City on March 4th, coming through as 1-0 winners thanks to a last-minute wonder goal from Bournemouth loanee Jack Wadham.
Unfortunately for Aaran and his new coaching staff, the joy was short lived as Worthing fell to 3 consecutive league defeats to Taunton Town, Farnborough and Chippenham Town, a run in which they conceded 9 goals. The run of poor defensive displays meant the rebels were in a market for a new centre-half and subsequently bought in experienced defender Kodi Lyons-Foster in an attempt to bolster their squad ahead of the final run-in.
The new addition certainly contributed to an upwards turn in form as the reds came back twice in a home fixture against Bath City to get a vital point, and thrashed Southern rivals Havant & Waterlooville 5-1 away from home, results that left Worthing in 5th place going into April. With games away at champions elect Yeovil Town and league veterans Dartford City coming up in the following weeks, Aaran and his squad will be hopeful of keeping the good form coming as they aim to qualify for the play-offs for the second consecutive season in the National League South.
