Will Payne, Lettings Consultant at Jacobs Steel, and avid Rebels fan shared all the latest from Worthing FC:
Worthing’s impressive run over Christmas of 3 wins and a draw left them comfortably within the play-off spots at the turn of the year to set them up nicely for a New Year’s Day derby against Eastbourne Borough. The game however, failed to live up to expectations as the game played out as a 0-0 draw.
The next visitors to Woodside Road were fellow play-off chasing Torquay United in the 4th round of the FA Trophy. An impressive hattrick from striker Mo Faal set up an incredible 5-1 win to set up a 5th round tie against National League side Rochdale in February, that was unfortunately as far as the cup run went, as Rochdale edged the encounter with a 2-1 win.
Unbeaten since November, the league form is certainly a saving grace for the team as 4 straight wins in January leave the rebels level on points with top of the league Dorking Wanderers and Maidstone United on 55 points, with 2 games in hand.
Another finish within the top 7 would mean a third straight year participating in the play-offs once the league season has been concluded and an opportunity of Worthing’s 3rd promotion in 10 years, and a 1st place finish would mean their second league title in 4 years as the clubs meteoric rise continues.
