After a sell-out final, with record-breaking ticket sales (selling out in just 4 minutes of release!) Will Payne, Lettings Consultant at Jacobs Steel and avid Rebels fan, shares the latest update about our proud partnership with Worthing FC:
After an inconsistent March, Aarran Racine’s side knew they needed to pick up their form if they were to better last seasons league finish and with 6 league wins in a row to finish the season they certainly did that. Brad Dologhan, fresh off a season scoring over 90 goals for the academy, came into the side and continued his impressive run of form at senior level, scoring 2 goals to ensure Worthing secured victory over fellow play-off chasing side Hampton & Richmond Borough.
The 19 year old then proceeded to score another 6 goals before the closure of the season, including in wins over champions elect Yeovil Town where Ollie Pearce unsurprisingly chipped in with a brace to secure a 3-1 win. This was the first of a 3 game winning streak away from home for the reds, which included victories at Dartford and St Albans City. Worthing then returned home to see of Western-Super-Mare 4-2 in the final game of the league season to secure 3rd place in the table and a home play-off semi final against Maidstone United where Pearce became the hero again after another brace in a clinical performance. His goal against Braintree Town in the play-off final however was not enough, as the reds fell to a 3-4 defeat and experienced play-off heartbreak for the second successive season in the national league south.
Despite the initial disappointment, everyone at Woodside Road can recognise the massive progress this side has made throughout the season, in which they scored 104 goals and won 26 games. The focus, however, will quickly shift onto next season as the reds try attempt to make it 3rd time lucky in their hunt for promotion to the National League.
